WELCOME to the online version of the latest Business Advantage Solomon Islands, created to give international business leaders an overview of the current potential for investment and trade with Australia's Melanesian neighbour. This fourth edition replaces and updates the edition of February 2010.
The Solomon Islands offers solid opportunities for the international business community in areas such as mining, infrastructure, business services, tourism development, forestry, agri-industry and fisheries.
Less than a decade after its economy lay in ruins, the Solomon Islands is in remarkably good shape. Its GDP has more than doubled since 2003, with its central bank estimating GDP growth of 8.2% in 2011. That same year, the country also achieved its first trade surplus since 2004.
In preparing Business Advantage Solomon Islands 2012/13, we have extensively researched business conditions in the country and conducted many interviews with Solomon Islands and international business people, and relevant government agencies.
